Inspirational Update - 8 September 2024

“The objective of cleaning is not just to clean, but to feel happiness living within that environment.” — Marie Kondo

“Don't let the perked be the enemy of the good. Lower the bar. Actually spending ten minutes cleaning off one shelf is better than fantasizing an out spring a weekend cleaning out the basement.” — Gretchen Rubin

“You have power over our mind— not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” — Marcus Aurelius

This past week was a week of cleaning and purging - lots of work, but refreshing and invigorating for someone (me) who loves organization. This week I helped my Dad clean out and prepare for donating most of the items on the 2nd floor of his home - a place with every closet and cabinet full.

Jack and I also cleaned our fence line, replaced the lattace and old boards, stained the fence, and removed some very tenacious vines. Lots of physical labor, but we definitely felt like we accomplished something, besides a few more aches and pains.

Lastly, I took some time to meditate and attempt to clean up the clutter in my mind. Yep, like many of you, I have thoughts that get stuck and push me one way or another — my goal is to get the ugly thoughts out by focusing only on the positive, joyful and happy thoughts. I know - easier said than done, but I’m working on it.

You may not be like me, but just try a purging a bit of old stuff or cleaning up a garden/trimming bushes or take time to purge your ugly thoughts by focusing on the good - you will be amazed how good it can make you feel - just a bit of accomplishment. And, I recommend donating things you haven’t used or worn in over 2 years - besides the achievement you made, you are also giving back.

Happy cleaning/purging!
